An expose by The Caravan revealed that the I-T department has possession of diary entries written by BJP leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa, which shows that he made payoffs of more than Rs 1800 crore to the BJP central committee, some of its biggest national leaders, and some judges and advocates, whose names have not been mentioned. The alleged payment recordings were made by Yeddyurappa in his own handwriting in Kannada in a Karnataka’s state assembly legislator’s 2009 diary, and the I-T department had the copies of the same since 2017.
A copy of the diary was taken to Arun Jaitley by a senior income tax official, asking him if an investigation by the Enforcement Directorate was viable. But Jaitley, whose name is also found in the same, ignored the complaint and refused to act.

Lokayukta submitted a report that contained sufficient evidence to indict BJP’s B S Yeddyurappa, who was the then CM of Karnataka, on the grounds of denotifying government lands and allotting them to family firms. He allegedly gave away ‘two acres of industrial land to his family firm in Bangalore, two acres to his daughter's BPO firm, a residential plot to his son in Bangalore, 134 acres (mining lease) to his followers and residential plots to his relatives in Mysore’.
