In 2001, the then BJP President Bangaru Laxman was caught on camera while taking a bribe, in a sting operation by the Tehelka. The CDs were released later, which was followed by his resignation. He accepted money from fake arms dealers after promising them to get the contract to supply their wares to the Army. Concerns of national security were not taken care of. He was booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

ONGC incurred a loss of Rs 80 crores after some officials flouted the guidelines to award a contract worth Rs 312 crore for supplying gas dehydration units to Deep Industries. This was despite the company failing to meet the technical requirements for the contract.
