Narmada Plantation Scam (Madhya Pradesh)

On July 2, 2017, Shivraj Singh government took up a drive to plant more than six crore saplings along the banks of river Narmada within a day. While about Rs 102 crore was allotted for the plantation of fruit and non-fruit trees on the banks of Narmada river by the state government during 2017-18, no official assessment of the plantation drive has been conducted so far. Activist Vinayak Parihar alleged that an audit of the plantation has proved that not even one crore saplings have survived because the plantation was carried out in a hurried manner. When some whistleblower 'Babas' were about to expose the scam, the government gave all the babas Minister of State (MoS) status, to stop them from exposing the scam.

Nirav Modi Scam

This is the biggest bank fraud India has ever seen. Jeweller and designer, Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi were allowed to escape after defrauding Punjab National Bank to the tune of Rs 22,000 crore. Modi and Choksi, along with officials of the PNB bank, have been charge-sheeted by the CBI. Complaints were made regarding the fraud as early as in 2016 to the PMO, SEBI, ED and CBI. However, no action was taken. Nirav Modi was also seen sharing a dais with PM Narendra Modi in Davos on 23rd January 2018.

North Cachar Hills scam (Assam)

Around Rs 1000 crore was siphoned off from the government funds and used for funding militancy activities in the North Cachar Hills district. Two BJP leaders, Jewel Garlosa and Niranjan Hojai, were awarded life imprisonment in the case in May 2017. The two were also the leaders of the militant group Dima Halam Daogah, which was later disbanded. The money was used for procuring arms and ammunitions in order to strengthen their troops to wage a war against India.

Nano plant land scam (Gujarat)

1100 acres of land was allotted to the Tata by Gujarat government to set up a Nano plant near Sanand at a rate of Rs 900 per square meter. This happened when the market rate for the land was at Rs 10000 per square meter. This gave Tata a benefit of Rs 33000 crore.

NULM scam

Rs 1078 crore was spent by the government under the National Urban Livelihood Mission to construct only 208 houses for poor. Modi government came under criticism of the Supreme Court after it found irregularities in the implementation of the housing scheme. The Supreme Court Bench observed: “It is a big scam. Your (Centre’s) affidavit tells us everything. Where has the money gone?”.

NEET scam

Candidates seeking admission in government-run medical colleges were charged Rs 25 lakh to Rs 1 crore and impostors were made available to take and crack the test on their behalf. Dr Anand Rai, the whistleblower of VYAPAM scam, pointed out that more than 3000 students from private medical colleges with poor academic backgrounds managed their selection in NEET PG. He also said that the tender worth $40 million to conduct NEET PG was given without any notification.

Nalia scam (Gujarat)

A 19-year-old woman was gang-raped by her employer and BJP leader Shantilal Solanki, along with two others. Solanki is the convenor of the OBC cell of BJP unit for Abdasa taluka of Kutch district. She said that she is only one of the many victims of a sex racket. The Kutch police said that more than 60 people are involved and minor girls could also be a part of the sexual exploitation.
