Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam awarded Rs 180 crore worth government project to a company owned by the daughter and daughter-in-law of the Minister for Power and Renewable Energy, Paras Jain. It has also been alleged that the deadline for tender applications was extended twice to ensure participation of his kin’s company.
The online procurement platform of the Madhya Pradesh government was manipulated in order to favour a few private companies. The fraud has allegedly been going on for some years. Insider officials were leaking the bid price to some select players which helped them in pitching lower bids and thus get the deal. It is estimated that the scam is worth Rs 3,000 crore.
BJP MLA from Radhanpur, Gujarat, fraudulently got Rs 20.78 lakh from the Prime Ministers’ Relief Fund after the 2001 earthquake. He claimed the money in the name of a school damaged during the earthquake, but it was found that he didn’t own it. In 2010, the Gujarat High Court found him guilty and asked him to pay back the entire amount with a 10% interest, along with a fine.
